Capital Region International Airport to host TSA PreCheck® Enrollment Center

LANSING, Mich. – Michigan residents will be able to enroll in the Transportation Security Administration’s TSA PreCheck® application program at the Capital Region International Airport (LAN) from Tuesday, April 29 through Friday, May 2. The TSA PreCheck® Pop-Up event is in collaboration with IDEMIA, an authorized TSA PreCheck enrollment provider since 2013.

The temporary enrollment center will be in the Community Room at LAN, next to baggage claim. The enrollment process is quick, convenient and even faster when the application is completed online before your in-person appointment.

The application process allows U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents to enroll directly in TSA PreCheck – an expedited screening program that allows travelers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt; keep their food items in their carry-on bag; laptop in its case; and their 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels bag in a carry-on, in select TSA airport checkpoint screening lanes. More than 200 airports participate in TSA PreCheck nationwide and dozens of airlines participate in the program.

About 99% of travelers eligible for TSA PreCheck wait 10 minutes or less to be screened at airports nationwide. Additionally, children and teens under age 17 are permitted to use the TSA PreCheck lane when traveling with an eligible parent or guardian on the same itinerary.

“TSA PreCheck is a great way to make your travel experience more efficient and enjoyable,” said Nicole Noll-Williams, president and CEO of the Capital Region International Airport. “We’re excited to host this TSA PreCheck pop-up enrollment event and give the local community an easy and convenient opportunity to enroll in the program right here at the Lansing airport.”

To participate in this enrollment opportunity, travelers should pre-enroll and make an appointment online. After completing the pre-enrollment steps, type in the location “Lansing, MI” and click on the search button to select the enrollment site for “Pop Up: LAN, 4/29-5/2”) and then click “Next.” Applicants can select an appointment time using the drop-down menu to choose a date and time. The drop-down menu will show the first available time, and individuals can choose a different date and/or time using the drop-down menu. The enrollment center will be open from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., and 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Walk-ins are available, but appointments are strongly encouraged and take priority over walk-ins. Individuals do not have to purchase an airline ticket to access the enrollment center.

During the in-person appointment, applicants are required to provide identity and citizenship documents, fingerprints and a photo will be captured, and then pay for the application feeApplicants must bring documentation proving identity and citizenship status. Visit the Universal Enroll website to determine which documents to bring based on citizenship status.

IDEMIA offers TSA PreCheck enrollment for $76.75 and if approved, travelers get a five-year membership with the program. Following the in-person enrollment appointment and approval, most applicants receive their Known Traveler Number (KTN) in about three to five days. The KTN number must be added to flight reservations to enjoy TSA PreCheck benefits.
