Capital Region International Airport, Sun Country Airlines and Apple Vacations Announce 2012-13 Schedule With New Service to Las Vegas and Mexico’s Puerto Vallarta

LANSING – Sun Country Airlines and Apple Vacations announced today the newest additions to the

2012-13 Winter Schedule on flights from Capital Regional International Airport, including twice weekly nonstop service to Las Vegas, Nevada, beginning December 27, 2012, as well as weekly nonstop

service to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico during the winter season, beginning February 1, 2013.

The airline will also resume nonstop service to popular winter destinations: Cancun, Punta Cana, and Orlando, flying into Orlando’s most convenient airport, Orlando International Airport (MCO). In addition, Sun Country has nonstop service to Washington D. C. six days per week and connections through Minneapolis to Phoenix, San Diego, Palm Springs, Fort Myers, Seattle, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

“We are pleased to offer the only nonstop service out of Lansing to Las Vegas and Puerto Vallarta, delivering a great addition to the service we already provide to central Michigan,” said Stan Gadek, president and CEO of Sun Country Airlines. “Mexico, the Caribbean, Las Vegas and Orlando will be available to the central Michigan area, featuring low fares, affordable First Class options and award-winning service every step of the way.”

The addition of new service to Puerto Vallarta in Mexico from Capital Region International Airport for the 2012-13 Winter Schedule is prompted by the soaring demand of Michigan travelers seeking to depart from Lansing to hot-spot Latin American tourist destinations.

“Based on the overwhelming popularity of our services to Mexico and the Dominican Republic, we anticipate the new weekly non-stop flights from Lansing to Puerto Vallarta will drive bookings immediately,” said Capital Region International Airport Authority Executive Director Robert Selig.

“Our advice to travelers is to start making reservations now for Puerto Vallarta before this exciting opportunity to fly to one of the world’s most popular winter resorts from one of the most convenient airports in the Midwest is sold out,” Selig said.

Highlights of the Sun Country Airlines and Apple Vacations 2012-13 Capital Region International Airport Winter Schedule include:

  • A new weekly non-stop service on Fridays from Lansing to Puerto Vallarta during Feb. 1–March 30, 2013. Apple Vacations is offering a choice of packages to Puerto Vallarta as well as the neighboring Pacific Coast resort town of Riviera Nayarit with prices as low as $1,217 all-inclusive, per-person.
  • Continued non-stop service from Lansing to Cancun, Mexico beginning Dec. 22, with flights on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays with prices as low as $839 all-inclusive, per person.
  • Continued non-stop service on Sundays from Lansing to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic beginning Dec. 23 with prices as low as $1,320 all-inclusive, per-person.

Capital Region International Airport’s non-stop service to Latin America began in 2009 with Sun Country Airlines and Apple Vacations offering once-a-week flights from Lansing to Cancun. In 2010, Sun Country and Apple Vacations added three more flights from the Lansing airport to Cancun and introduced a new service to Jamaica.

During 2011-12, fueled by two successive years of sold-out Lansing-to-Latin America destination schedules, Sun Country Airlines and Apple Vacations launched a new weekly service to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic that resulted in 98 percent passenger occupancies.

“The terrific opportunities we have available to fly internationally from Lansing is good for passengers and good for Michigan,” said Liz Andrews, manager of the Fly Lansing Concierge Travel Center. “Sun Country and Apple Vacations have successfully combined award-winning service and low fares to attract travelers. We look forward to continuing our efforts together to help even more leisure travelers fly to fun destinations this winter.”
